ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

David Coulson has marinated himself in a variety of musical influences over the years to create a unique sound as a singer-songwriter and a keyboard artist. Growing up in Fresno, California, he cut his musical teeth in a progressive rock band when he took up keyboards in college. He was also heavily influenced by the solo piano improvisations of Keith Jarrett and other jazz artists. His music today is rooted in those influences, as well as European electronic music, Celtic and contemporary EDM. Coulson moved to Boone in 1993 and found new inspiration from traditional mountain music. He opened at the 2022 Wilkes Recovery Revolution Rally and performed this spring at R3’s annual luncheon. He has also played regularly for a variety of other social service organizations in the Appalachian Mountains and holds the work these agencies do close to his heart.
